1.A teen from Jalna who bends it like Beckham, a budding fashion designer who taught 45 tribal girls in Nandurbar how to save money for the better future, a child labourer who refused to be forced into child marriage and a 17-year-old who fought for the right to education and mobility of 15 out-of-school girls – these are just some of the nine girls in Maharashtra who are being honoured with this year’s Navjyoti award. They are the state’s bravest and brightest young girls and have converged in Mumbai for the eleventh edition of Navjyoti – a joint initiative that was launched by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Doordarshan Kendra in 2004.

2.Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, along with Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State (I/C), Tourism & Culture and Minister of State for Civil Aviation, launched the Tourist Visa on Arrival (TVOA) enabled with Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) Scheme at a function here today.Launching the scheme, the Union Home Minister said that India has been the centre of attraction for people around the world since times immemorial. He said that travelers since ancient times have been drawn to India to experience its philosophy and spiritualism. Shri Rajnath Singh said that India also has a unique advantage in tourism sector owing to its geographical location and that no other country offers such abundance of diversity in weather conditions. On the occasion, the Union Home Minister assured the tourism industry representatives that he will ensure a safe and secure environment for visiting foreign tourists.

3.The Government has decided to introduce and implement Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana in the country. Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) envisages feeder separation, strengthening of sub-transmission and distribution system including metering of distribution transformers/feeders/consumers and rural electrification with scheme cost of Rs.43033 crore during the entire implementation period. This was stated by Sh. Piyush Goyal, Minister of state for Power, Coal & New and Renewable Energy (Independent Charge) in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.

4.Ministry of Earth Sciences, through National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), has been working on the Low Temperature Thermal Desalination (LTTD) Technology that utilizes the temperature difference available between surface water and deep sea water. In this methodology, the warmer surface sea water is evaporated at low pressures and the vapour obtained are condensed using the colder deep sea water. Three LTTD plants have been successfully commissioned in the country, one each at Kavaratti, Minicoy, and Agatti islands of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. The capacity of each of these LTTD plants is 1 lakh liter of potable water per day. The fresh water produced is supplied through local pipe network within the same Island. The Lakshadweep Administration requested NIOT for setting up similar plants in remaining six islands. NIOT has sent a detailed project report to the Lakshadweep Administration in this regard. Work has been initiated to set up a prototype LTTD plant with a capacity of generating 2 million litres of potable water per day at the Tuticorin Thermal Power station, Tamil Nadu.

1.45 व्या भारतीय आंतरराष्ट्रीय चित्रपट महोत्सवात आज श्रीलंकेचे पुरस्कार विजेते लेखक आणि दिग्दर्शक इंडिका फर्डिनांदो यांचा “द सिंगिंग पाँड” हा चित्रपट दाखवण्यात आला. या चित्रपटाने 31 व्या शिकागो आंतरराष्ट्रीय बालचित्रपट महोत्सवात विशेष ज्युरी पुरस्कार मिळवला होता.

2.पंतप्रधानांना संबोधित अति महत्त्वाच्या पत्रांच्या प्रगतीवर लक्ष ठेवण्यासाठी एनआयसीने “व्हीएलएमएस” (व्हीव्हीआयपी लेटर्स मॉनिटरिंग सिस्टम) नावाचे वेब आधारित ॲप विकसित केले आहे. यामुळे मंत्रालये आणि पंतप्रधान कार्यालय यांच्यात कागदविरहित संवाद सुरू राहील. कार्मिक, सार्वजनिक तक्रारी आणि निवृत्तीवेतन राज्यमंत्री डॉ. जितेंद्र सिंग यांनी आज लोकसभेत ही माहिती दिली.

3.बॉलिवूडच्या हिंदी चित्रपटात भारताबाबतचे जे चित्र दाखवले जाते, त्यापेक्षा प्रत्यक्षातील भारत वेगळा आहे. म्हणूनच “सॉग्स ऑफ द बार्डस ऑफ बंगाल : द बाउल्स ॲण्ड फकिर्स” हा चित्रपट केला असे या चित्रपटाच्या निर्माता आणि दिग्दर्शक मोनालिसा दासगुप्ता यांनी म्हटले आहे. 45 व्या भारतीय आंतरराष्ट्रीय चित्रपट महोत्सवात आज हा चित्रपट दाखवण्यात आल्यानंतर त्या माध्यम प्रतिनिधींशी बोलत होत्या. बाउल आणि फकिर यांची गाणी बंगालच्या दुर्गम भागात गायली जातात. ही परंपरा जपण्याचा प्रयत्न व्हायला हवा असे त्या म्हणाल्या.

4.एकीकडे जगाची लोकसंख्या प्रचंड वेगाने वाढत असताना जगभरातील रिअल इस्टेट अर्थात जमिनीचे भावही गगनाला भिडले आहेत. भविष्यात नवी महानगरे वसवताना सर्वच देशांची चांगलीच दमछाक होणार आहे. यावर जपानच्या “शिमीझू कॉर्प‘ या कंपनीने आता रामबाण उपाय शोधून काढला असून, ही कंपनी आता चक्‍क पाण्याखाली शहर वसविण्यास तयार झाली आहे. पाण्याखालील शहर 2030 पर्यंत तयार झालेले असेल, असा विश्‍वास या कंपनीने व्यक्‍त केला. या प्रकल्पावर कंपनी 26 अब्ज डॉलर्सचा खर्च करणार असून, त्यामध्ये पाच हजार लोक वास्तव्य करू शकतील.
